[Clinical study of electroacupuncture therapy on postoperative rehabilitation of patients with knee fractures].

To investigate the effect of electroacupuncture therapy on postoperative rehabilitation training of patients with knee fractures. Patients with knee fractures from July 2020 to July 2021 were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or a control group according to the double-blind principle. Both groups were given surgical treatment and postoperative conventional rehabilitation training. There were 40 cases in the control group, including 27 males and 13 females;the age ranged from 20 to 66 years old with an average of (36.46±6.29) years old, continuous passive motion (CPM) training was performed after operation. There were 40 patients in the experimental group, including 24 males and 16 females. The age ranged from 21 to 68 years old with an average of (37.62±7.08) years old, on the basis of the control group, electroacupuncture was given. After 4 weeks of intervention, the excellent rate of knee function score, visual analogue scale (VAS) before and after intervention, serum pain mediators, prostaglandin E (PGE), substance P (SP), bradykinin (BK), joint range of motion and quality of life were compared between the two groups. After 4 weeks of intervention, the Rasmussen score for knee function in the experimental group (24.15±1.36) scores was higher than that in the control group (21.25±2.20) scores (P<0.001). The VAS in the experimental group (2.04±0.51) scores was lower than that in the control group (2.78±0.60) after 4 weeks of intervention (P<0.05). Serum PGE (2.25±0.37) mg·L-1, SP (4.43±1.05) ng·ml-1, BK (2.67±0.68) ng·ml-1 in the experimental group were lower than those in the control group (3.91±0.44) mg·L-1, (6.12±1.37) ng·ml-1, (4.55±1.03) ng·ml-1 after 4 weeks of intervention(P<0.05);in the experimental group, the active knee flexion angle of the knee joint was (108.63±9.76)°, the active knee extension angle (-2.46±0.70)°, passive knee flexion angle (116.83±6.57)°, passive knee extension angle (1.44±0.38)° were better than control group (100.24±8.15)°, (-3.51±0.86)°, (111.04±8.22)°, (0.78±0.24)° (P<0.05);the experimental group's psychological score (73.12±5.08), physiological score (72.26±5.89), social function score (72.57±4.23), overall health score (75.12±5.16) were higher than that of the control group (68.49±4.13), (68.13±5.27), (69.04±3.42), and(70.88±3.97) respectvely(P<0.05). Electroacupuncture combined with CPM training after knee fracture surgery can significantly improve knee function and range of motion, reduce pain levels, and also improve quality of life and reduce the incidence of adverse events.

Favorable Clinical Outcomes After Humeral Head Depressor Muscle Coactivation Training With EMG for Patients With Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

The coactivation (Co-A) of shoulder muscles that contribute to humeral head depression can lead to mechanical unloading of the subacromial structures during abduction and thus can be beneficial for patients with arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR). The present study aims to examine the effectiveness of humeral head depressor muscle Co-A (DM-Co-A) training on clinical outcomes in a sample of patients with ARCR. We hypothesized that DM-Co-A training with medioinferior vector during glenohumeral exercises can improve clinical results in the rehabilitation of ARCR. Randomized controlled single-blind study. Level 1B. A total of 27 patients who underwent ARCR after a medium-sized rotator cuff tear and completed their Phase 1 training with ≥80% compliance were included. Together with 14 weeks of conservative treatment (6 weeks of Phase 2 training and 8 weeks of Phase 3 training), synchronized "DM-Co-A Training" was applied to the treatment group with an electromyography (EMG) biofeedback (EMG-BF) device. Patients in the treatment group were asked to voluntarily activate the humeral head depressor muscles guided by visual and auditory feedback of the EMG-BF device during the Phase 2 and Phase 3 conservative treatment exercises performed by the control group. Demographic characteristics of the participants were recorded. Visual analog scale and universal goniometer were used to assess pre- and posttreatment pain severity and joint range of motion, respectively. The Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire, Revised Oxford Shoulder Score, Modified Constant-Murley Shoulder Score, and the Western-Ontario Rotator Cuff Index were used to assess functionality. There was a clinically meaningful improvement in pain severity, active ROM excluding internal rotation, and functionality in the treatment group compared with the control group (P < 0.05). A 14-week duration DM-Co-A with EMG may be beneficial in the postoperative rehabilitation of patients after ARCR.

Efficacy of electroacupuncture on myocardial protection and postoperative rehabilitation in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass: a systematic review and Meta-analysis.

To evaluate the efficacy of electroacupuncture (EA) intervention on myocardial protection and postoperative rehabilitation in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Eight databases, including PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Chinese BioMedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, Wanfang Data, China Science and Technology Journal Database, and two clinical trial registries, were searched. All randomized controlled trials (RCTs) related to EA intervention in cardiac surgery with CPB were collected. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, two researchers independently screened articles and extracted data. After the quality evaluation, RevMan 5.3 software was used for analysis. Fourteen RCTs involving 836 patients were included. Compared with the control treatment, EA significantly increased the incidence of cardiac automatic rebeat after aortic unclamping [relative risk (RR) = 1.15, 95% confidence interval (CI) (1.01, 1.31), P < 0.05; moderate]. Twenty-four hours after aortic unclamping, EA significantly increased the superoxide dismutase [standardized mean difference (SMD) = 0.96, 95% CI(0.32, 1.61), P < 0.05; low], and interleukin (IL)-2 [SMD = 1.33, 95% CI(0.19, 2.47), P < 0.05; very low] expression levels and decreased the malondialdehyde [SMD =－1.62, 95% CI(－2.15, －1.09), P < 0.05; moderate], tumour necrosis factor-α [SMD = －1.28, 95% CI(－2.37, －0.19), P < 0.05; moderate], and cardiac troponin I [SMD = －1.09, 95% CI(－1.85, －0.32), P < 0.05; low] expression levels as well as the inotrope scores [SMD = －0.77, 95% CI(－1.22, －0.31), P < 0.05; high]. There was no difference in IL-6 and IL-10 expression levels. The amount of intraoperative sedative [SMD = -0.31, 95% CI(－0.54, －0.09), P < 0.05; moderate] and opioid analgesic [SMD = -0.96, 95% CI(－1.53, －0.38), P < 0.05; low] medication was significantly lower in the EA group than in the control group. Moreover, the postoperative tracheal intubation time [SMD = －0.92, 95% CI(－1.40, －0.45), P < 0.05; low] and intensive care unit stay [SMD = －1.71, 95% CI(－3.06, －0.36), P < 0.05; low] were significantly shorter in the EA group than in the control group. There were no differences in the time to get out of bed for the first time, total days of antibiotic use after surgery, or postoperative hospital stay. No adverse reactions related to EA were reported in any of the included studies. In cardiac surgery with CPB, EA may be a safe and effective strategy to reduce myocardial ischaemia-reperfusion injury and speed up the recovery of patients after surgery. These findings must be interpreted with caution, as most of the evidence was of low or moderate quality. More RCTs with larger sample sizes and higher quality are needed to provide more convincing evidence.

The Effectiveness of Blood Flow Restriction Technique Combined with Low-Resistance Exercise in the Postoperative Rehabilitation of Patients Following Knee Surgery: A Narrative Review and Update of Evidence-Based Physiotherapy Practice

&lt;b&gt;Background:&lt;/b&gt; Blood flow restriction (BFR) therapy has emerged as a promising rehabilitation approach after knee surgery. The technique involves the use of a tourniquet or cuff to limit blood flow to the affected limb during low-resistance exercise, which creates a hypoxic environment thought to stimulate muscle growth and improve muscle function. &lt;b&gt;Objective:&lt;/b&gt; Our scoping review aims to examine the current literature on the effectiveness of BFR combined with low-resistance exercise on rehabilitation after knee surgery. &lt;b&gt;Method: &lt;/b&gt;The Google Scholar, PubMed, and PEDro databases were searched using relevant key-words. Studies that met the inclusion criteria were selected for analysis. The data from the selected studies were analyzed, categorized, and summarized to provide an overview of the findings. &lt;b&gt;Results:&lt;/b&gt; In total, 12 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the review. Outcomes such as pain, strength, and range of motion were assessed. &lt;b&gt;Conclusion: &lt;/b&gt;The results suggest that BFR and low-resistance exercise can be effective in improving patient outcomes following knee surgery. However, the heterogeneity of the studies made it difficult to determine the most effective approach. Further research is needed to identify the optimal dosage, frequency, and duration of BFR and low-resistance exercise for knee surgery rehabilitation.

REHABILITATION OF PATIENTS AFTER SURGICAL TREATMENT OF STATIC DEFORMITIES OF THE FOREFOOT

Postoperative rehabilitation of patients with hallux valgus is just as important, if not more so, than a technically flawless surgical intervention. Carrying out rehabilitation measures is an integral part of the postoperative period, which must be individual for each patient and depend on the volume and type of surgical intervention, the patient's age, and accompanying pathology. Objective. To improvethe results of the recovery of patients after orthopedic surgical interventions on the front part of the foot due to the developed complex system of postoperative rehabilitation. Methods. The articleprovides an analysis of the results of treatment of 70 patients with transversely spread deformation of the forefoot and hallux valgus 1–2 degrees using different approaches to rehabilitation measuresin the postoperative period. The patients were divided into 2 homogeneous groups by age, gender and degree of hallux valgus. Unlike the control group, manual therapy and myofascial massagetechniques were additionally used in the main group. The results. The results of the treatment were evaluated according to the AOFAS scoring scale for the forefoot, which is generally accepted inthe world. In the preoperative period, the average AOFAS score in the main and control groups was 65.4 and 64.7 points, respectively. 45 days after surgery, the average scores were 74.7 and 74.4 points,respectively. After 60 days, the average score in the main group was 92.1 points, and 82.6 in the control group. 3 months (90 days) after the surgical interventions, the average scores practically coincided in both groups and amounted to 93.7 points in the control group and 95.0 in the main group. The patients of the main group resumed their usual activities after 2 months. after the operation onthe front part of the foot, and the control after 3 months. Conclusions. The use of myofascial massage, manual therapy for mobilizing the metatarsophalangeal and interphalangeal joints of the toes with gymnastics to strengthen not only the stabilizers of the foot, but also to restore the bearing capacity of the girdle of the lower extremities and the stereotype of walking, made it possible to obtainnot only a positive functional result, but also to speed up the recovery compared to the control group per month.

Effectiveness of personalized treatment stage-adjusted digital therapeutics in colorectal cancer: a randomized controlled trial

BackgroundColorectal cancer survivors often experience decline in physical performance and poor quality of life after surgery and during adjuvant therapies. In these patients, preserving skeletal muscle mass and high-quality nourishment are essential to reduce postoperative complications and improve quality of life and cancer-specific survival. Digital therapeutics have emerged as an encouraging tool for cancer survivors. However, to the best of our knowledge, randomized clinical trials applying personalized mobile application and smart bands as a supportive tool to several colorectal patients remain to be conducted, intervening immediately after the surgical treatment.MethodsThis study is a prospective, multi-center, single-blinded, two-armed, randomized controlled trial. The study aims to recruit 324 patients from three hospitals. Patients will be randomly allocated to two groups for one year of rehabilitation, starting immediately after the operation: a digital healthcare system rehabilitation (intervention) group and a conventional education-based rehabilitation (control) group. The primary objective of this protocol is to clarify the effect of digital healthcare system rehabilitation on skeletal muscle mass increment in patients with colorectal cancer. The secondary outcomes would be the improvement in quality of life measured by EORTC QLQ C30 and CR29, enhanced physical fitness level measured by grip strength test, 30-sec chair stand test and 2-min walk test, increased physical activity measured by IPAQ-SF, alleviated pain intensity, decreased severity of the LARS, weight, and fat mass. These measurements will be held on enrollment and at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months thereafter.DiscussionThis study will compare the effect of personalized treatment stage-adjusted digital health interventions on immediate postoperative rehabilitation with that of conventional education-based rehabilitation in patients with colorectal cancer. This will be the first randomized clinical trial performing immediate postoperative rehabilitation in a large number of patients with colorectal cancer with a tailored digital health intervention, modified according to the treatment phase and patient condition. The study will add foundations for the application of comprehensive digital healthcare programs focusing on individuality in postoperative rehabilitation of patients with cancer.Trial registrationNCT05046756. Decreased muscle strength and scapular muscle endurance associated with shoulder function after neck dissection.

Shoulder disability is a common problem following neck dissection. Even if nerve structures are preserved, this may occur after the surgery. The primary aim was to research changes in rotator cuff and scapular muscles strength, and scapular muscle endurance after neck dissection in patients with head and neck cancer. The secondary aim was to investigate the relationship between these changes and postoperative shoulder function. This cross-sectional and prospective follow-up study included 14patients who underwent neck dissection (9unilateral and 5bilateral). Evaluations were performed preoperatively and at 3months postoperatively. Muscle strength measurements, including trapezius, serratus anterior, and rotator cuff muscles, were obtained using a handheld dynamometer. The scapular muscle endurance test was used for muscle endurance assessment. Postoperative shoulder function was evaluated using Constant-Murley shoulder score. A decrease in muscle strength and the scapular muscle endurance test was found at 3months postoperatively, except for the subscapularis muscle strength (p< 0.05). There were moderate to strong correlations between Constant-Murley shoulder score and percentage changes in muscle strength and the scapular muscle endurance test, except for the upper trapezius muscle strength (p< 0.05). Muscle strength and scapular muscle endurance may reduce following neck dissection. These reductions are associated with postoperative shoulder function. Thus, muscle strength and endurance training may be beneficial for early postoperative rehabilitation in patients with head and neck cancer.

<i>Objective:</i> Comfort nursing is a new model of nursing intervention that emphasizes the comfort of patients at the physiological, psychological and social levels throughout nursing activities, and has certain advantages for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients. In this paper, we will review the research progress of the application of comfort care in the postoperative rehabilitation period of cervical spine patients at home and abroad, in order to provide reference and ideas for future postoperative care of cervical spine patients and related scholars' research on the rehabilitation of postoperative patients with cervical spine disease. <i>Methods:</i> By searching and reading the relevant literature, an inductive approach was used to review the application of comfort care in the postoperative rehabilitation period of patients with cervical spondylosis. <i>Results:</i> Studies have shown that the intervention of comfort care during postoperative rehabilitation of patients with cervical spondylosis can effectively reduce the pain of traction, improve the psychological state of patients, reduce their negative emotions, improve the treatment effect and shorten the recovery time of patients with cervical spondylosis. <i>Conclusion: </i>Understanding and applying comfort care and enhancing comfort care for patients with cervical spondylosis in nursing care can improve patient compliance with rehabilitation treatment and enhance patient satisfaction with medical treatment, thus providing a strong guarantee for the rehabilitation of patients with cervical spondylosis.

Analysis of the literature shows that in terms of the tactics of surgical treatment of patients with nasal deformity, combined with the pathology of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, there is no consensus, and the development of more effective methods of simultaneous surgical treatment remains a subject of discussion.

Difference in the effects of three nutritional pathways on postoperative rehabilitation in patients with gastric cancer and type 2 diabetes mellitus*

Abstract Objective To explore the difference in the effects of three nutritional pathways on the rehabilitation of patients with gastric cancer and diabetes mellitus after operation. Methods Overall, 120 patients were randomly divided into the partial parenteral nutrition (PPN), early enteral nutrition (EEN), and diabetes mellitus special enteral nutritional emulsion (DEN) groups. The differences in the effects of three nutritional modes were compared. Results (1) On postoperative day four, the total protein level in the EEN and DEN groups was significantly higher than that in the PPN group (P &lt; 0.05). On postoperative day ten, body mass index, lymphocyte count, total protein level, and pre-albumin level in the DEN group were significantly higher than those in the PPN group (P &lt; 0.05). (2) On postoperative day four, there was no significant difference in the fasting blood glucose level between the EEN and DEN groups (P &gt; 0.05), but this level was significantly lower than that in the PPN group (P &lt; 0.05). On postoperative day ten, fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels in the DEN group were significantly lower than those in the PPN group. (3) On postoperative day four, the C-reactive protein level in the DEN group was significantly lower than that in the other groups (P &lt; 0.05). (4) The incidence rates of complications in the PPN, EEN, and DEN groups were 25.0%, 10.0%, and 5.0%, respectively. The incidence of complications in the PPN group was significantly higher than that in the other groups. However, there was no significant difference in perioperative indexes among the three groups (P &gt; 0.05). Conclusion Enteral nutrition is more conducive to the recovery of patients with gastric cancer and type 2 diabetes mellitus after operation; the special enteral nutrition emulsion for diabetes mellitus is more effective than the conventional nutrition solution in stabilizing blood sugar levels and reducing the degree of inflammation.

The choice of tactics of rehabilitation measures in patients with chronic paraproctitis, depending on the volume of surgical intervention based on quality of life indicators

BACKGROUND: The development of medical technologies puts forward requirements for the improvement and optimization of treatment and rehabilitation algorithms for providing surgical care to proctological patients and, in particular, patients with chronic paraproctitis. The criteria for the effectiveness of therapy are the period of wound healing, the frequency of recurrence of the disease and the preservation of the function of the anal sphincter. The development of minimally invasive surgical technologies is a new promising area of outpatient coloproctology.&#x0D; AIMS: was to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of physiotherapy programs for postoperative rehabilitation according to the SF-36 quality of life assessment scale in groups of patients operated on by various methods of surgical interventions and to develop an Algorithm for surgical treatment and postoperative rehabilitation of patients with chronic paraproctitis.&#x0D; MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included observation and control in the pre- and early postoperative period for 270 operated patients with extra- and transsphincter pararectal fistulas with various options for surgical treatment and rehabilitation programs used in the early postoperative period. As a criterion of effectiveness, an assessment of the quality of life b according to the SF-36 questionnaire was used. The surgical-physiotherapeutic Algorithm of surgical treatment and rehabilitation of patients with chronic paraproctitis is proposed for wide introduction into clinical practice.&#x0D; RESULTS: As a result of the analysis of the data obtained, it was found that the quality of life depends on the type of operation: the advantage of using minimally invasive surgical interventions and the rehabilitation program used has been proven: the advantage of using an extended 4-component rehabilitation program has been proven.&#x0D; CONCLUSION: The data obtained made it possible to determine the tactics of rehabilitation measures in patients with chronic paraproctitis depending on the volume of surgical intervention and display it in a visual, schematic form ― Algorithm for surgical treatment and rehabilitation of patients with chronic paraproctitis.

Effect of HCH Nutrition Management Combined with Early Exercise Nursing on Nutrition Status and Postoperative Rehabilitation of Patients after Gastric Cancer Surgery.

Objective The study aimed to analyze the effect of hospital-community-family (HCH) nutrition management combined with early exercise nursing on nutrition status and postoperative rehabilitation of patients after gastric cancer surgery. Methods A total of 80 patients with gastric cancer admitted from January 2019 to June 2021 were selected and divided by the odd-even grouping method into two groups, i.e., 40 cases in the control group adopting routine nursing combined with early exercise nursing and 40 cases in the study group adopting HCH nutrition management; the nutrition status and postoperative rehabilitation of the two groups were compared. Results The times of feeding, bowel sound, anal exhaust, and defecation in the study group after surgery were shorter than those in the control group, with a difference of statistical significance (P < 0.05). 3 months after discharge, the scores of Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SAG) in the study group were lower than those in the control group, while the body mass index (BMI), prealbumin, albumin, hemoglobin, and the score of the Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index (GIQLI) were higher than those of the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Hospital-community-family nutrition management combined with early exercise nursing can improve the postoperative nutrition status of patients undergoing gastric cancer surgery and advance the time of postoperative exhaust and defecation.

Work ability and physical activity after major bone sarcoma resection and reconstruction with tumour prosthesis of the lower extremities. A cross-sectional study

Purpose The aim of this study was to evaluate work ability, activity limitations and physical activity in adults that had gone through major bone sarcoma resection and reconstruction surgery in hip and knee. Materials and methods Twenty patients, of 72 enrolled, and 20 controls were included in this cross-sectional study. Work Ability Index scores (general [0–10 points], physical and mental [1–5 points]), the Patient Specific Functional Scale (0–10 points), step counts and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) were assessed. Adjusted and unadjusted general linear models were applied. Results The patients had a mean age of 43 (range, 20–71) years and were assessed 7 years (range, 2–12) after surgery (proximal femoral n = 9, distal femoral n = 7, proximal tibia n = 4). Compared with controls, patients had lower general work ability (mean difference [95%CI], −1.3 points [−2.1, −0.5]) and work ability in relation to physical demands at work (−1.4 points [−2.0, −0.8]). The patients reported higher severities of activity limitation (−6.7 points [−7.9, −5.4]). There were no between-group differences in step counts or IPAQ-scores. Conclusion Despite similar levels of physical activity, patients showed poorer work ability and severe activity limitation. Post-operative rehabilitation in patients of the working-age population should include assessments of work ability and activities important to the individual. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION Adults that have gone through resection and reconstruction surgery following bone sarcoma in lower extremity show clinically relevant reductions in work ability and self-selected activities To tailor post-operative rehabilitation at short and long term, initial assessment and monitoring should include work ability and activities important to the individual patient.

EFFECTIVENESS OF MANUAL THERAPY ADDED TO CONVENTIONAL PHYSIOTHERAPY PROTOCOL IN PATIENTS WITH SURGICALLY TREATED PROXIMAL HUMERAL FRACTURES

Proximal humerus fractures are the third most common fractures in adult patients. In developed economies, there is a tendency to increase the number of these fractures due to the aging population. Physical therapy is recognized as an important component in the management regardless of the fracture type or treatment protocol. The purpose of this blind, randomized study was to compare the effectiveness of two physical therapy interventions on the shoulder range of motion and function after surgical treatment of proximal humerus fracture: 1) supervised therapeutic exercise only (Control group – CG), 2) supervised therapeutic exercise with manual soft tissue mobilization and massage (Experimental group – EG). Ninty-six subjects diagnosed with proximal humerus fracture treated operatively were randomly assigned to one of these two groups. The rehabilitation included four phases, in each of which the patients underwent ten procedures. Shoulder range of motion was assessed with a universal goniometer for flexion, extension abduction, internal rotation, and external rotation. International SFTR method of measuring and recording joint motion was used. The results were analyzed with the statistical program SPSS Statistics 19. At the end of the study, we found statistically significant better results in the EG in flexion (152.8° ± 22.3°), abduction (145.3° ± 24.2°), external (61.1° ± 11.8°), and internal (75.3° ± 11.6°) rotations, compared to CG: flexion (140.7° ± 22.0°), abduction (130.6° ± 24.4°), internal (51.8° ± 15.6°) and external (63.5° ± 14.1°) rotations with statistical significance (p &lt; 0.05). The extension showed improvement in both study groups, within the EG results being 52.9° ± 15.9° and in the CG 49.9° ± 5.5° - with no statistically significant difference between them. The DASH (Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand) scale was used for functional assessment of upper extremity. We established that the application of manual soft tissue mobilization with massage in the postoperative rehabilitation of patients with proximal humerus fractures leads to more effective restoration of shoulder joint function.

Evaluation of Application Effect of Self-Made Compression Cold Therapy in Postoperative Rehabilitation of Patients with Orthopedic Dyskinesia.

With the accelerated aging of the population, orthopedic injuries have become more collective. Among them, the incidence of ankle fractures remains high. Surgery is an effective way to treat ankle fractures by utilizing special surgical site, complex anatomical structure, and specific surgical methods. With surgical approach, it is easy for basis postoperative blood loss, pain, swelling, and other problems. After surgery, most patients suffer from symptoms of fear, increased pain sensitivity, and excessive irrational concerns about physical movement or activity. Compression cold therapy combines cold therapy with air pressure therapy to ease local exudation, constrict blood vessels, improve circulation, relieve pain, and control inflammation through the effects of low temperature and pressure. Application during the rehabilitation period can prevent joint swelling, reduce muscle soreness, and promote the functional recovery of limbs, which provides an effective guarantee for postoperative rehabilitation of patients with orthopedic dyskinesia. Based on this, it is very important to evaluate the application and effect of self-made compression cold therapy in postoperative rehabilitation of patients with orthopedic dyskinesia. This work proposes a one-dimensional deep convolutional neural network-based method; DenseNet for analyzing the rehabilitation effect of patients with orthopedic dyskinesia after ankle fracture surgery. The approach is to evaluate the rehabilitation effect of self-made compression cold therapy from the perspectives of feature reuse, attention mechanism, and feature decoupling. Experiments on the dataset show that the proposed neural network has better efficacy evaluation performance. The proposed systematic assessment based on the emerging deep learning network has great significance in healthcare domain, particularly in assessing applicability, side effects, and noninvasiveness of treatment methods.

Bu Shen Huo Xue decoction promotes functional recovery in spinal cord injury mice by improving the microenvironment to promote axonal regeneration

BackgroundBu-Shen-Huo-Xue (BSHX) decoction has been used in the postoperative rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injury in China. In the present study, we aim to reveal the bioactive compounds in BSHX decoction and comprehensively explore the effects of BSHX decoction and the underlying mechanism in spinal cord injury recovery.MethodsThe main chemical constituents in BSHX decoction were determined by UPLC–MS/MS. SCI mice were induced by a pneumatic impact device at T9–T10 level of the vertebra, and treated with BSHX decoction. Basso–Beattie–Bresnahan (BBB) score, footprint analysis, hematoxylin–eosin (H&E) staining, Nissl staining and a series of immunofluorescence staining were performed to investigate the functional recovery, glial scar formation and axon regeneration after BSHX treatment. Immunofluorescent staining of bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU), neuronal nuclei (NeuN) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) was performed to evaluate the effect of BSHX decoction on neural stem cells (NSCs) proliferation and differentiation.ResultsWe found that the main compounds in BSHX decoction were Gallic acid, 3,4-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde, (+)-Catechin, Paeoniflorin, Rosmarinic acid, and Diosmetin. BSHX decoction improved the pathological findings in SCI mice through invigorating blood circulation and cleaning blood stasis in the lesion site. In addition, it reduced tissue damage and neuron loss by inhibiting astrocytes activation, and promoting the polarization of microglia towards M2 phenotype. The functional recovery test revealed that BSHX treatment improved the motor function recovery post SCI.ConclusionsOur study provided evidence that BSHX treatment could improve the microenvironment of the injured spinal cord to promote axonal regeneration and functional recovery in SCI mice.
